Navigation Links

*Note: Navigation Links are only offered for Blogger blog makeovers.

Navigation Links are small decorative buttons that can be used to easily navigate your way around a blog. Usually they include some sort of small image or icon that coordinates with the rest of the design. In the above picture they are the small green crowns and are placed in a horizontal row under the header. On Blogger, navigation links can link to one of the following:

  • Your “Home” Page: This would be the main page of your blog, for example, http://yourblogname.blogspot.com.
  • A Blogger Page: If you go into Posting/Pages/Add a Page you can now add individual pages to your Blogger blog. These are static pages and differ from blog posts in that they do not appear on the main page of your blog and are only accessible by clicking on a navigation link button. You can edit these pages and update them as you like. They can be used for things like an About Me page or a Contact Information page.
  • A Blog Post Label: Blogger allows you to attach category labels to your blog posts (look for this option at the bottom of the screen where you compose your posts). These labels help to group posts of similar topics. By attaching your navigation link to one of these labels, you can easily retrieve all posts on a given topic. For example, if you assign the label “recipe” to several blog posts, we can then attach your navigation link to that label and by clicking that link you can retrieve all posts with the label “recipe”.
  • An Outside Website: You can use this option to direct one of your navigation links to any outside webpage or blog. For example, you may want one of your navigation links to go to your Twitter or Facebook page.
  • Your Email Address: With this option, clicking on the navigation link button would open up an email message to you in the reader’s email program. Please note that not all internet and email browsers support this functionality.
